Stress is a symptom of modern times. Even the term itself is not old in a psychological context. It was first mentioned in 1914 as a human reaction in alarm situations. Building on this, the physician Hans Selye defined stress in 1936 as a physical state under strain, characterized by tension and resistance to external stimuli, known as stressors.
Originally, the term "stress" comes from physics and is used there to refer to the "non-specific response of a body to any demand." In materials science, stress describes the change in a material due to external force. This leads to tension, distortion, and bending.
Is this what stress also causes in today's world? Tension, distortion, and bending?
A common distinction of stress forms today is the differentiation of the term into positive and negative stress.
Often, it is the same external stimuli that trigger different stress reactions in people. A roller coaster ride can be perceived as a wonderful thrill, boosting the release of happiness hormones. Conversely, the rapid ride can also be perceived as highly frightening and threatening, serving as a prime example of negative stress.
So, is it all a matter of perspective? Is today's ubiquitous stress a self-made problem, a dramatization of something that has always existed? Perhaps, in part.
And why is stress so prevalent today? Who dares to say that they go through life completely relaxed? Is it possible that without stress, we simply have not set enough goals for ourselves? Are we ineffective or even lazy?

Life in the fast lane certainly takes its toll. The number of treatment cases for depression, burnout, or psychosomatic reactions to stress is steadily increasing.
For Vitametik practitioners, dealing with stress is an exciting and broad topic. Tension and relaxation are central points of our work. Vitametik is a holistic tool to achieve relaxation and to allow the body to get rid of any tensions it may hold.
